A winter storm dumped 7 inches of  snow on Ocean City on Monday, and forecasters predicted a low temperature of only 10 degrees for Monday night.

The Ocean City School District announced a two-hour delay to the start of the school day for Tuesday, March 4.

Monday’s storm started as rain and a layer of ice sits under the snow on many streets and on the Ocean City Boardwalk.

Warmer weather is expected to return slowly throughout the week with temperatures expected to exceed 50 degrees on the mainland and reach the high 40s in Ocean City by Saturday — when the U.S. “springs forward” with the arrival of Daylight Savings Time.

Ocean City schools were closed on Monday, and Gov. Chris Christie has announced a state of emergency for all of New Jersey. All state offices were closed, but all city offices were open.

Ocean City woke up to an inch or two of accumulation, and all roads, including the Route 52 causeway, remained slick as plows tried to keep up with the continuing snow.

The Ocean City Free Public Library, Historical Museum, Aquatics and Fitness Center and Senior Center were closed.

The wind on Monday morning was relatively light and streets were not flooded during a 9:32 a.m. high tide despite a new moon having passed on Saturday.

Tuesday is expected to remain cold with a high of only 30 degrees. The temperature will climb above the freezing mark on Wednesday with a predicted high of 41.
