Ocean City is the first certified agency in the Cape-Atlantic Region to join the ABLE Project.

An Ocean City pedestrian died as a result of a collision with a motor vehicle at 11:28 a.m. Jan. 13.

John Francis Wilson Jr., 83, of Ocean City, suffered head trauma and was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, where he later died of his injuries, according to a city news release Tuesday.

A joint investigation by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Unit and Ocean City Police Department determined that Wilson was not in a crosswalk when he walked out from between two parked cars in the 700 block of Asbury Avenue and struck the side-view mirror of a 2013 Ford Explorer driven by Douglas Montealegre, 33, of Philadelphia.

The vehicle was traveling north on Asbury Avenue toward Seventh Street. The accident remains under investigation.

Montealegre was driving with a suspended driver’s license. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while his license was suspended while involved in an accident resulting in serious bodily injury. He was also found to have outstanding warrants for his arrest.
