A 12-year-old girl has become the 10th confirmed case of coronavirus in Cape May County.
The girl is recovering at her residence, but no other information was disclosed about her in a county press release Saturday.

New Jersey has become the second-leading state in the nation with 8,825 total COVID-19 cases and 108 deaths so far.
Currently, the testing guidelines in New Jersey state that only symptomatic (sick) individuals experiencing COVID-19 like symptoms, such as fever of 100.4 or higher, shortness of breath, and coughing, are being tested at this time.
If an individual test positive they should stay at home and self-isolate. Self-isolation means creating a separate space in the home and keeping a safe distance from others. Those household members who tested positive with COVID-19 should self-quarantine for 14 full days until after any sick person in the household’s self-isolation period ends.
“There is currently no treatment for COVID-19, which is why social distancing is so important. We urge our residents to continue social distancing and taking all standard precautions such as washing your hands and frequently cleaning touched surfaces,” said Kevin Thomas, Cape May County health officer.
Residents should also continue to take simple steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19:
- Wash your hands with liquid soap and water, and rub for at least 20 seconds, or use alcohol-based sanitizer if soap and water are not available
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing
- Stay home if you are sick
- Regularly clean high-touch surfaces
- When you must go out for essential items practice social distancing, minimize your time out and wash your hands as soon as possible afterward
