Gillian’s Wonderland Pier tossed a birthday bash for mascot Wonder the Bear last night and ended with a fireworks display over the skies near the iconic amusement complex.
The brief, but intense display drew a small but enthusiastic crowd to the beach and boardwalk. Some sprinted to better viewing spots, while others just reclined and took in the show. Not a bad way to mark Wonder’s big day. Hey, he might not be as famous as the Philly Phanatic, but Wonder lives at the beach. The Phanatic’s many OC visits are just that, visits.
The weather cooperated and was “wonder”full as well, with mild temperatures still in control after a warm day. Following a prolonged period of chilly OC weather with more warmth predicted today, the mood was , shall we say, sunny.
“This is awesome!” a young female patron of 6th St. pizza and Grill at Wonderland. “Pizza on the boardwalk and its finally warm here and now fireworks,” she said. “I’m finally at the Shore!”
