Friday’s Winter Storm

After a nice stretch of weather, winter is making a return in what could be its final act. Strong NW winds with gusts to 40 mph is ushering in cold air and temperatures will drop into the 20s tonight so bundle up.

A colder day for Thursday but less wind! Highs will only make it into the 30s. Clouds will increase ahead of the next storm system that will bring a little snow (and rain) our way. The low pressure system will move off the Carolinas late Thursday and intensify offshore Friday morning. Snow will move into the area late Thursday night into the overnight hours. Snow is expected to mix or change to rain (depending on exact track) Friday morning and winds will increase once again with gusts over 30 mph but this time winds will be blowing in from the northeast. Regardless of any mixing, snow accumulations are expected to be light as temperatures rise above freezing during the day, keeping slushy and wet (Less than 2”).

Once this storm departs, chilly air remains through the weekend. Overall the weekend will be dry except Saturday night when a quick clipper swings through with a chance of a rain and/or snow shower.

Next week a spring surge! Strong High Pressure will build offshore pushing temperatures into the 60s by midweek.
