A multiyear project to replace the Ocean City Boardwalk between Fifth and 12th streets is part of a capital plan. City Council votes Thursday to fund a portion of the work.

City Council has a full agenda for its public meeting 7 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 27) at the Ocean City Free Public Library. But here are five things that might be of special interest:

  • GIFTS OF LAND: City Council will consider three new ordinances to accept gifts of real estate from private owners. The lots are part of unbuildable wetlands — some near the 3700 and 3800 blocks of West Avenue and others near the Ocean City Homes neighborhood in the 50s.
  • CHRISTIAN BROTHERS ALLEYS: City Council will vote on the second and potentially final reading of an ordinance that removes obstacles to the demolition and redevelopment of the beachfront lots that have been home to the Christian Brothers retreat for more than a century.
  • $9.3 MILLION  TO FIX UP THE CITY: City Council will vote on the second reading of an ordinance authorizing the borrowing of $8.9 million and the spending of $9.3 million on capital improvements for the next year. The plan calls for spending $5 million alone in road and drainage work.
  • 29th STREET FIREHOUSE: City Council will vote to award a $92,350 contract to Czar Engineering of Egg Harbor Township to design and administer construction of the 29th Street firehouse, which was damaged by Superstorm Sandy. Plans call for the reconstruction of the building that houses trucks and equipment and building a new adjacent living quarters.
  • 15th STREET PLAYGROUND: City Council will vote to award a $92,282 contract to All Surface Asphalt Paving of Point Pleasant to install a new surface and playground equipment at 15th Street. The project also will include replacement of the basketball court, drainage work and installation of a new bathroom facility.
