Landscaping and a trio of inspections are the final items on a to-do list before the new skateboard park in Ocean City opens.
Fencing was installed last week, and landscaping and inspections are expected to be complete within the week.
An insurance safety consultant, the county engineer and the design engineer must inspect the completed facility before it can open, Mayor’s Assistant Mike Dattilo reported to City Council last week.
Councilman Mike DeVlieger said Monday that it’s possible the park could be open within two weeks, and he’s hoping to get permission to bring a skating contest to the park in October to showcase the new facility and to raise money for charity.
The opening of the park would mark the end of a more than year-long effort to create the $750,000 facility. A Cape May County grant will pay for two-thirds of the project.
