Families were encouraged to attend an anti-bullying presentation on Thursday at Ocean City High School.

The “Stand for the Silent” program featured the showing of a video produced by American Sign Language students at Ocean City High School. The students sign and perform to Morgan Frazier’s song, “Hey Bully.”

The video is posted on YouTube, where it received more than 2,000 views in a week from people around the country. Frazier’s own website links to “this awesome version” of “Hey Bully” by the OCHS students.

The video stars Jen Campbell, Gloria Laboy, Carly Benson, Alexia French, Cierra Granger, Anna Elmér, Emma Murphy, Laura Pomeroy. It is directed by Elmér.

The stars are students of Ocean City ASL teacher Amy Andersen, and many of them plan to pursue further ASL studies in college.

Based in Oklahoma, “Stand for the Silent” is an anti-bullying organization that was founded in 2010 by a group of students from Oklahoma State University in response to the death of 11-year-old Ty Field-Smalley of Perkins, OK. His parents, Kirk and Laura Smalley, have been traveling around the country since their son’s death, promoting the anti-bullying message.

The “Stand for the Silent” event kicks off Ocean City’s anti-bullying assembly next week and ASL shows June 5 and 6.
