The Lukens-Martinez family is one of the most charitable broods in Ocean City. They have conceived and organized the town’s annual Community Christmas Dinner, a free holiday meal with all the trimmings for families and individuals who have nowhere else to go for the holiday. Family patriarch Mike Lukens is a master woodworker who has built custom longboards to be auctioned off for the benefit of the Ocean City High School state championship surf team.

Now, it is Ocean City’s turn to give back to a family that has given so much to its community.

“Teudy’s Road to Recovery” a fundraiser to aid the medical expenses and recovery efforts of family member Teudy Martinez, will take place on Sunday November 5, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sketties Restaurant, in Marmora, just off the 34th St. Bridge.

The event is being held to aid Teudy, who was tragically injured in a swimming accident in July of 2016 on Brigantine beach. The accident left him a quadriplegic and in need of intense treatment and rehabilitation.

As if the accident weren’t tragic enough, it happened just two weeks before Teudy’s wife Halley, gave birth to the couple’s second child. Halley is the daughter of Mike Lukens and wife Peaches.

As a result of the accident, the family was left with catastrophic medical bills and a need for equipment and therapy not covered by insurance.

Tickets for the event are $25 per person and they include an Italian buffet, live music, raffles and a silent auction.

Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available at Palermo Heating and Cooling, 1311A West Aveune Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Peace of Wood, 1112 Asurby avenue, today and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the 7th Street Surf Shop, 720 Asbury Avenue.

Donations may still be made for the silent auction by calling Angie at 609-846-5653.

Ocean City is a town with a big heart. Now is the time to help show it once again, by helping the Lukens-Martinez family and Teudy’s Road to Recovery.
