Ocean City awoke Thursday to drenching rain as a coastal storm moved up the coast. But the precipitation lightened significantly by the time a 9:30 a.m. high tide hit, and the island avoided major flooding.
Low-lying streets in Ocean City were covered with water, but not as deeply as in some of the big summer downpours that coincided with astronomically high tides.
Northeast winds gusting beyond 35 mph churned up the ocean, but beaches — even at the south end — saw no significant erosion.
The storm arrived late Wednesday night and was fading by midday Thursday.
The forecast calls for a return of the sun for Friday, and a warm and sunny weekend with highs in the upper 70s.
The marine forecast calls for steady north winds on Friday.
