Ocean City American Legion Post 524 welcomed U.S. Air Force Technical Sgt. Chris Donohue, his wife, Krista, son Otter and daughter Reven on Sunday as the ninth military family to be honored by the post’s “Rest & Relaxation Program.”

Local merchants contribute free gift certificates and a local family has donated a week’s stay in their condo to say “thank you for your service.”

The Donohue family was escorted into town by the Ocean City Fire Department, Ocean City Police Department and the American Legion Riders, a motorcycle team comprised of military veterans.

Donohue was given a citation by Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton. The award mentioned Donohue’s 16 years of military service in the U.S. Marine Corps, the N.J. Army National Guard and the United States Air Force.

Donohue was deployed as a combat advisor and Joint Terminal Attack Controller for the US/Albanian mission. He was also an advisor for the Afghan National Army’s 1st Mobile Strike Force and helped with transfers into Operation Resolute Support in 2014. He received the Bronze Medal for his services.

The Donohue family was showered with many gifts courtesy of local Ocean City merchants during a welcoming ceremony at American Legion Post 524.
