Dear Friends,

The city administration presented a proposed five-year capital plan to City Council last night. The presentation lays out a tentative schedule for improvements to roads, drainage, the beach, bay, boardwalk, public buildings, open space, recreational facilities and more. I encourage everybody to take a look at the plan. A copy of the presentation and related documents are available at www.ocnj.us/projects.

Council will consider our proposal and listen to feedback before voting on accepting it next month. The plan commits more than $100 million to tackling long-overdue projects in every part of the island. It’s a lot of money, but I’m confident that the plan is responsible. Our AA bond rating, low interest rates and our growing ratable base make this an ideal time to invest in these infrastructure improvements. Most importantly, the work will contribute to the quality of life we’ve all come to expect in Ocean City.

I want to let everybody know that the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife will be on the Ocean City Municipal Golf Course next week as part of a study on the migration patterns of the Atlantic brant. Their research will involve trapping and tagging the waterfowl with transmitters, but none of the birds will be harmed.

Finally, I ask you all to vote for Ocean City in Coastal Living magazine’s “America’s Happiest Seaside Towns” contest. These types of online polls are increasingly popular with organizations and publications, and they remain a great source of publicity for our town and its businesses. Please take a few seconds to vote at www.coastalliving.com/happytowns2018 .

I hope you all have a great weekend.

Warm regards,

Jay A. Gillian
