Dear Friends,

I’m planning a Town Hall Meeting to discuss our 2018 bayside dredging program. I encourage anybody with an interest in the dredging of public or private areas on the bay side of Ocean City to attend. The meeting will be 10 a.m. April 28 at the Ocean City Tabernacle. Representatives of ACT Engineers and the city team will be on hand to provide details on this year’s plans and on long-term initiatives.

I want to remind you all that the 34th Street Bridge will be closed overnight on Monday (from 10 p.m. April 2 through 5 a.m. April 3) to allow work crews to pour the final sections of concrete for the two-year redecking project. If weather interrupts the work, the bridge instead will close overnight Tuesday into Wednesday during the same hours. The Cape May County project remains on schedule to be complete by the first week of May, and I’m sure we’ll all be relieved to have both lanes back.

The intersection of Eighth Street and Asbury Avenue will be closed overnight Monday into Tuesday as New Jersey American Water continues to replace a water main. Partial detours will be in effect during the day on Wednesday and Thursday at the same intersection. As always, I thank you for your patience and understanding as these important jobs get done.

Michele and I would like to wish everybody a happy Easter with family and friends. I’m glad to report that the Rev. Brian Roberts, the former pastor at St. Peter’s, will be back in town to provide the sermon for the Community Easter Sunrise Service at 6:30 a.m. Sunday on the Ocean City Music Pier. The Rev. Roberts is an important part of our community, and in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, his hard work, leadership, faith and compassion were essential to our recovery and to the many residents who were displaced or in need.

The weekend forecast looks good, and I hope you’ll take time to enjoy the many other events planned for this weekend, including the Great Egg Hunt at 2:30 p.m. Saturday on the beach between 11th Street and 14th Street and the Easter Fashion Promenade, which will start this year with a performance by the Philly Keys, a dueling piano show, at noon Sunday in front of the Music Pier.

Warm regards,

Jay A. Gillian
