Dear Friends:

The Ocean City Tourist Development Commission has been working diligently to finalize their budget and marketing campaign for 2014.  They do this in consultation with the City and the input of the entire business community.

The Commission’s funding comes from a special assessment paid by each mercantile license holder and rental unit owners who are required by ordinance to register with the City.

The mission of the Commission is to get people “over the bridge” to enjoy “America’s Greatest Family Resort for a day, a few days, a week or longer.

The commission has been gathering information on a coordinated marketing plan that would include television, life style magazines, web based components, billboards, direct mail and newspapers.  They also assist with funding some local special events.   Ocean City is out spent by a number of other summer resorts so it’s critical that the spending decisions are given careful consideration and based on the input of professionals.

I appreciate the amount of time the volunteer members of the Commission devote to this effort.

A healthy tourism season is essential to the economic health of our community.  In addition, we all know many people who first experienced Ocean City as a visitor and ended up as an investor, second homeowner or resident.

Memorial Day will be here before you know it.

Have a great weekend!

Warm regards,

Jay A. Gillian
Mayor
