The following is Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian’s weekly update to citizens posted on Wednesday, Nov. 24.
Dear Friends,
I hope you all have heard the great news that Ocean City was recently identified by Forbes as one of the top three smartest small towns in America (read the Forbes “America’s Smartest Cities” piece). This recognition comes following a year full of noteworthy designations in various “Best of” categories.
The article recognizes Ocean City as an attractive small town that has attracted “down-shifting, but often well-educated, boomers.” This is another recognition that our residents, guests, businesses and our governing body can be proud of, which supports our reputation as America’s Greatest Family Resort.
I would like to remind everyone that Friday, Nov. 28 is the annual Christmas in the Downtown – our Miracle on Asbury Avenue. Join merchants and the Chamber of Commerce in celebrating an old fashioned, Downtown Christmas and the arrival of Santa Claus from the top of the City Hall roof. This is a great family event and I look forward to seeing everyone there.
There are several holiday programs coming in December, from the Christmas Parade and Train Show to the Pops Orchestra and performances by the Ocean City Theatre Company. Please visit the Chamber of Commerce website www.oceancityvacation.com for all of the up to date happenings.
