The following is Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian’s weekly update to citizens posted on Friday, Oct. 24.

Dear Friends,

I would like to remind everyone that there are several great community and Halloween events being offered over the next week.  I hope you take the time to enjoy them and use this opportunity to communicate to your family some safety tips while celebrating Halloween.

The Greater Ocean City Theatre Company presents “Stage Fright” Saturday October 25 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday October 26 at 2 p.m. on the Ocean City Music Pier.  This is the Theater Company’s 6-12th grade student ensembles’ Halloween performance of “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” and “The Invisible Man.”  Tickets will be available at the Music Pier prior to the performances.

The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce presents its annual Welcome Night on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Music Pier.  This is a great opportunity to meet many of Ocean City’s civic groups, businesses and local organizations.  The event is free and open to the public.

The city’s 67th annual Halloween Parade is scheduled for Thursday Oct. 30 starting 7:15 p.m. The parade runs on Asbury Avenue beginning at Sixth Street and ending at 11th Street. The event is presented by the Ocean City Exchange Club and is one of the longest-running Halloween Parades in the area.

Citywide trick-or-treating will be held Friday, Oct. 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. We hope families enjoy this annual event, and offer a few safety tips:

  • Wear reflective clothing
  • Stay in large groups
  • Young children should be accompanied by an adult
  • Obey the pedestrian safety laws – it is dark and vehicle drivers may not see you
  • Carry a flashlight
  • Costumes should not restrict visibility
  • Do not open any candy until you get home and your parents inspect the items
  • Report any suspicious person or activity to the police immediately

I hope everyone has a great weekend and experiences all of our upcoming events.

Warm regards,

Jay A. Gillian
Mayor
