To the Editor:

On April 4, 1968, 63 days before his own assassination, Robert F. Kennedy announced the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at a rally in Indianapolis. He said, “Let us dedicate ourselves to what the Greeks wrote so many years ago, ‘To tame the savageness of man and make gentle the life of this world.’”

The Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration in our city Saturday was inspirational and made us proud to be year-round residents of Ocean City.

The musical performances, scripture readings, messages and reflections were very moving and beautiful. The home-cooked soul food dinner afterwards was a wonderful time for fellowship and sharing.

Dr. King dedicated his life to love, justice, peace, and non-violence. He died spreading this message. With the violence and terrorism in the world today, his words are more important than ever.
