The official unveiling of the Ocean City Primary School’s LEGO-Space was September 7th, 2017.  OCPS Principal, Cathy Smith; Club Advisors, Randy Kohr and Jen DeVlieger welcomed students, parents, Ocean City Board of Education Members, Sea Isle City Board of Education members and Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kathleen Taylor to the Ocean City Primary School Library to view the grand opening of this exciting and creative space for the students.

Randy Kohr spoke with the children about this incredible new space.

The maker-space room was constructed in August by third grade students who were involved in the OC (Ocean City) Life 21 Club during the 2016-2017 school year.  This is a new club at the primary school intended to teach design process to students.

Dr. Kathleen Taylor seemed to be as excited as the students.

The club participants identified an under-utilized storage room in the library and wanted to transform it into a usable student space. They decided that a design lab, or “Maker-space”, would benefit the entire school community. The OCPS maker-space was created with over 63,000 LEGOS.

How do the kids feel about the new room? This young man may have said it best.
So far, the reviews are pretty positive. (All Photo Credits: Reagan DeVlieger)
