King and Queen of Plop Contest Falls at 11 a.m. Friday

The King and Queen of Plop Contest is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, on the beach next to the Ocean City Music Pier.

WHAT: Ocean City’s King and Queen of Plop (Fall Guy-Fall Gal Contests)

WHEN: Friday, August 29, 11 a.m.

 WHERE: Ninth Street Beach adjacent to the Ocean City Music Pier (south side)

WHAT IS THIS? Ocean City notables welcome the fall season by performing artistic, slow motion plops (or falls) on the beach. They are not eligible for prizes. Following the notables, amateurs of all ages compete for the King and Queen of Plop Trophies and ribbons. Entry is free. All participants receive “ Proper Plopper Certificates” to testify that they have competed in this unique contest.

Celebrity ploppers include Nancy Fox from Fox Vocal Arts whose Super Sopranos will sing an inspiring aria and then plop; The World’s Only Wind Chimes Band that will perform its chart topping mega hit, “Brother Can You Spare a Chime” and then tinkle Jingle Bells while Santa Claus plops; Doug Jewell of Air Circus, AKA Pirate Arrrgh! who will do something Piratey and then plop; Trash Buster, the City’s environmental Icon, who will recite the Propper Plopper Poem and then demonstrate the art of proper plopping; The Ocean City Walking Fish who will walk to the strains of “The Walk of Life” and then plop; Jerry Lukas, the Ninja Turtle Plopper who will entertain spectators before plopping; Frank Faralli, Mr. Mature America, who with Miss Ocean City, Little Miss Ocean City, and Junior Miss Ocean City will stroll to the tune of Plop and Circumstance before plopping … Plus the Shriver’s Plopping Salt Water Taffy and more.

The Celebrity Ploppers will be followed by Amateur Ploppers of all ages who will compete for prizes. An awards ceremony will conclude the event capped by a mass Plopping when all contestants and celebrities join hands and recite: “Ring Around the Sandy, Don’t we all look Dandy, Thank you Wind Chimes Bandy, We all, Fall, Down!!!”
