Voters will go to the polls on Tuesday (Nov. 3, 2015) to choose two First District representatives in the state General Assembly.

Democratic incumbent Bob Andrzejczak and R. Bruce Land are running against Republican incumbent Sam Fiocchi and Jim Sauro.

Democrats currently hold 48 of the Assembly’s 80 seats. The First District represents Cape May County and parts of Atlantic and Cumberland counties.

The election ballot also includes uncontested races for the following offices:

  • County Clerk: Rita Marie Fulginiti
  • Cape May County Freeholder: Leonard C. Desiderio
  • Ocean City Board of Education (three seats): Thomas R. Oves Jr., H. James Bauer, Jacqueline McAlister
  • Ocean City Board of Education (to fill out two unexpired one-year terms): Jennifer (Tiffany) Prettyman, Gregory Whelan

The school board includes nine members from Ocean City, who are elected to three-year terms in staggered years, and three members from Upper Township, who are appointed to one-year terms.

Oves, 52, is running for his third term on the board. He is a retired teacher and helps run a family business on the boardwalk.

Bauer, 74, is a retired teacher running for his seventh term on the board.

McAlister, 44, is an Egg Harbor Township teacher seeking her second term.

Whelan, an attorney and Pfizer business executive, was appointed to fill the seat vacated when Pete Madden was elected to City Council. He is running to complete the final year of Madden’s term.

Prettyman, a teacher at Mainland Regional High School, was appointed to fill the seat vacated when Ray Clark resigned. She is running to complete the final year of Clark’s term.
