With pilings and substructure in place between Eighth Street and Plymouth Place on Saturday (Jan. 9) and sections of decking waiting to be installed, the boardwalk reconstruction project appears to be on schedule.

The Ocean City Boardwalk reconstruction project between Plaza Place and Eighth Street continues to take advantage of good weather to make good progress.

The section between Plymouth Place and Seventh Street remains to be completed.
The section between Plymouth Place and Seventh Street remains to be completed.

Pilings and stringers are now in place across about half the project area (between Eighth Street and Plymouth Place) and a couple sections of pre-constructed decking are on site.

The work is expected to be complete by mid-March, but with all sections of boardwalk decking already constructed off-site, the work possibly could be complete before then.

The project is the third phase of a multiyear effort to rebuild the Ocean City Boardwalk between Fifth Street and 12th Street. Walters Marine Construction of Ocean View has a $1,888,347 contract to do the job.

Boardwalk cyclists and pedestrians have been detoured around the construction area since October.
