Don and Susan Doll, winners of the 50th annual Book of Golden Deeds Award, to be presented by the Exchange Club of Ocean City on April 27 at the Greate Bay Country Club.

The Exchange Club of Ocean City has chosen local civic and business leaders Donald and Susan Doll as the recipients of the 50th annual Golden Deeds Award.

The honor was announced at a recent Monday night dinner meeting and resulted in a standing ovation.

Each year since 1965, the Ocean City Exchange Club has chosen a worthy Cape May County or Atlantic County individual or group exemplifying dedication and service to children, community and country. The honoree need not be great in wealth, prestige or high in social standing, but he or she must demonstrate sacrifices and unselfish service to worthwhile causes for public good.

“Sue and I were totally surprised by the committee’s choice,” Doll said. “It truly is an unexpected honor!”

The Dolls moved to Ocean City in 1977, then purchased and operated Century-21 Coastal Realty for 35 years. Currently the two are principles of Ocean City Property Management LLC, specializing in condominium property management. Both are licensed as Broker Associates with Jesse Real Estate.

An active Exchange Club member for over three decades, Mr. Doll has twice been selected as club president, served as both secretary and treasurer, and is presently a Board of Directors member. He received New Jersey District Exchangite of the Year Award in 1990.

Mr. Doll has worked on many of the organization’s most successful charity fundraising events, such as the annual Halloween Parade and the Miss Ocean City Pageant. He was a founding member of the Exchange Club’s Annual Fishing Tournament, the Shrimp and Beef Night and the Cole Brothers Circus Event.

In addition, Mr. Doll has contributed to his community, serving multiple terms on the Ocean City Zoning Board and the Historic Commission, and assisting with the Miss Night in Venice Committee. He was appointed by Governor Christine Todd Whitman to the “Task Force on the Availability of Homeowners Insurance in the Coastal Region” in 1998.

Susan Doll is presently a member of the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Realtors, the Miss Night in Venice Committee, and is a 34-year member of the Ocean City Exchangettes, serving twice as president. She is a past member of the American Business Women’s Association. She has judged The Ocean City Halloween Parade and been a hostess and hostess coordinator for the Miss Ocean City Pageant, both Exchange Club events.

“The list of individuals and organizations that have been selected throughout the history of this award is incredible,” said Exchange Club President Bill Culp. “Now, Don and Sue Doll rightfully join an elite group of the most charitable and kind people over a half century in Ocean City!

This year’s Book of Golden Deeds award dinner will be held at the Greate Bay Country Club on Monday April 27 beginning at 7:00 p.m. The event is open to the public with tickets priced at $40.
