City Council on Thursday will consider leasing city property to the Ocean City Theatre Company and will cast a final vote on funding for a new skateboard park, but here are a handful of other agenda items that might be of interest. See the full agenda. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 4) in Council Chambers on the third floor of City Hall.
Downtown and Boardwalk Budgets: City Council will vote to approve a $311,448 budget for Ocean City’s three Special Improvement Districts. Ocean City’s Special Improvement Districts include the retail section of the Ocean City Boardwalk, the downtown section of Asbury Avenue and the gateway section of Ninth Street. The budget is funded by assessments on businesses in the districts (based on storefront footage) and by revenue from events.. The budget goes to marketing, beautification and promoting special events. Last year’s budget was $343,588. (See Agenda Packet for detail on the budget.)
Attics in Ocean City Homes Neighborhood: City Council will consider the first reading of an ordinance that provides relief for the only single-family neighborhood in Ocean City with a six-foot attic height limit. The proposed measure would require attic heights of nine feet and eliminate a requirement for a pull-down stair (without affecting overall building height requirements). Merion Park Utility Poles: Council will vote to approve the installation of three new utility poles to support the new pumping station in the drainage project near completion.
Gravel on Dune Crossovers: City Council will vote to advertise for bids from companies that can provide gravel to “improve” dune crossovers to the beach.
Leon Costello Contract: City Council will vote to award a professional services contract with Leon Costello of Ford, Scott & Associates for municipal auditing services.
Tourism Development Commission Appointments: City Council will vote to appoint Burt Wilkins, broker of record with Goldcoast Sotheby’s International Realty in Ocean City, to his first full two-year term on the Ocean City Tourism Development Commission. Council will vote to reappoint Charles Bangle, co-owner of Manco & Manco Pizza, to his second term. His nomination is an apparent show of faith in a man who awaits trial on tax evasion charges. Bangle is chairman of the commission. The positions are volunteer.
