Chalikes, Sophie (nee Falbo) – 87 of Glassboro passed away on Sunday, Oct. 9 at The Terraces at Parke Pl., Sewell, NJ surrounded by her loving family.
Born in NYC, NY on Sept. 19, 1929 to Alex and Argo Falbo, she was a former resident of Englewood Cliffs, NJ and Seaville, NJ. Sophie resided in Glassboro, NJ with her son and daughter in-law for the past 19 months.
A graduate of George Washington High School in NYC, she attended business school and was employed as a paralegal before becoming a homemaker. She later worked for Prentice Hall Publishing Co. and was co-owner with her late husband, John, of The Water’s Edge Florist, Edgewater, NJ.
Sophie was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, EHT, NJ for many years. She loved to cook (esp. Greek food) and travel with her husband to Florida where they were snow birds for several years. In addition, their travels included a cross country trip, Europe, and the Caribbean.
Predeceased by her parents and her husband of 58 years, Sophie is survived by her children: Chris (Al) Heston of Marmora, and Ted (Karen) Chalikes, of Glassboro; Grandchildren: Andrew (Kerri) Heston, Joanna Heston, Melissa Chalikes, Greg Chalikes and their mother, Sue Chalikes; Great granddaughter Kora Rose Heston; Brother Nick (Tassa) Falbo; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation: Thursday, Oct. 13 from 6-8pm, The Godfrey Funeral Home, 644 South Shore Road, Palermo. Funeral service: Friday, Oct. 14 at 10am, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 7004 Ridge Avenue, Egg Harbor Twp., where friends may call between 9-10am. Interment will follow in Seaside Cemetery, Palermo.
