Two hundred lined the beaches in Ocean City south of 14th Street in October 2014 for the 47th annual Surf Fishing Invitational Tournament.

Bass Pro Shops, which opened its first New Jersey store last April in Atlantic City, is sending a six-member team to compete in the Ocean City Fishing Club’s 48th annual Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 17.

Anglers representing the hunting, fishing and outdoors retail emporium will join teams and individuals from throughout the tri-state area to vie for trophies and recognition during the one-day event.

“All of us with the Bass Pro Shops team are excited about being in such a prestigious event, and we plan on winning it,” said General Manager Eric Clements, who is a member of the six-person team. “We thoroughly enjoy opportunities like this that allow us to do the things we love, while sharing that enjoyment with members of the communities we serve.”

“Our team at Bass Pro Shops is extremely excited to have the opportunity to enter in this year’s Ocean City Fishing Club Surf Fishing Tournament,” BPS Fishing Manager Corey Solomon said. “The club does a phenomenal job putting together this event and our dedicated staff of anglers is eager to be a part of it.”

Bass Pro Shops is located at the end of the Atlantic City Expressway next to the Tanger Outlets’ The Walk shopping and entertainment district.

Registration for Saturday’s tournament is from 5:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. at the Ocean City Intermediate School, 18th Street and Bay Avenue. Fishing will take place from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Lunch will be served at the Intermediate School, followed by presentation of awards to the winning teams and individuals.

The fee is $60 for teams of up to six members. Individuals can sign up for $15 per person.

The Ocean City Fishing Club tournament, which is held under the auspices of the Association of Surf Angling Clubs, is co-sponsored each year by the Ocean City Department of Recreation.

Now in its 102nd year, the Ocean City Fishing Club is the oldest, continuously operating fishing club in America.
