Paper Shredding Day in Ocean City Oct. 9

Ocean City will hold its semi-annual Paper Shredding Day 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Shelter Road Recycling Center off Tennessee Avenue. This no-contact event will observe all public health guidelines.

Ocean City Airshow Ready to Take Off

All eyes will turn to the sky for Ocean City’s Boardwalk Aerobatic Airshow Weekend on Sunday, Sept. 19. The event is free to attend and is one of the annual highlights of September in Ocean City. Before the airshow, the Parachute Pyrotechnic Show will return for its fourth year at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18. The show consists of several highly trained and specially licensed Team Fastrax parachuters jumping from a plane 6,000 feet above Ocean City’s beach and Boardwalk.

Ocean City Councilman Will Run for Mayor

Ocean City Councilman Keith Hartzell announced Monday that he will be running for mayor in the May 2022 municipal election. The three-term, at-large councilman, who also served two years as Council president, said he believes the time has come for leadership more in touch with the people of Ocean City. “I set out on a listening tour around Ocean City over the course of the past few months, going door-to-door and hearing from our constituents. There is overwhelming interest in new and positive leadership with a clear vision for the future of our great town,” Hartzell said in a news release.

Chamber of Commerce to Celebrate 100th Anniversary

The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce their 100th Anniversary Celebration will be held on Friday, Oct. 1, at the Ocean City Yacht Club. Members of the Chamber are busy planning the event. Committee members include former Mayor Roy Gillian, Chamber Executive Director Michele Gillian, Chamber 1st Vice President Janet Galante, and board members Patrick Halliday and Patrick McMahon.

Mayor’s Message: Sept. 10

In his weekly address, Mayor Jay Gillian outlines the projects that are part of a new $18.4 million bond ordinance approved Thursday by City Council. Dr. Ron Matthews to Speak at Ocean City Tabernacle

The Ocean City Tabernacle welcomes back Ron Matthews, president of Eastern University, to speak at the 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services on Sunday, Sept. 12. Dr. Matthews was appointed as Eastern’s 10th president in 2018 after serving as a music professor, chairman of the Music Department and executive director of the Fine and Performing Arts Division since 2010.

Mayor’s Message: Wind Farm Update

Mayor Jay Gillian said his administration met this week with representatives of Ocean Wind, the company seeking federal and state approval to construct a wind energy farm off the shores of southern New Jersey. "I advised them that it is crucial that they set up a town hall meeting to update everybody on their plans, the status of their application, and provide substantive information regarding this project. They agreed to do so, and will have representatives on hand who will be prepared to field questions on various aspects of the project," Gillian said in a statement Saturday. Youth Ministry Expert Duffy Robbins to Appear at Ocean City Tabernacle

The Ocean City Tabernacle welcomes back Duffy Robbins on Sunday, Sept. 5, to speak at the 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services. Dr. Robbins is a professor of Christian Ministry at Grove City College, Pa., and a respected youth ministry veteran with more than 40 years of experience in the field.
