Weather Statement: Coastal Flood Advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect for Ocean City, Strathmere and nearby coastal areas from 3 a.m. Saturday through 12 p.m. Sunday. A new moon, rain and strong onshore winds will combine to cause minor flooding through three consecutive high tide cycles.

Coastal Flood Advisory for Friday

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect for Ocean City, Strathmere and nearby coastal areas from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday. An approaching new moon and steady onshore winds will combine to cause minor flooding. The advisory will likely be extended to include Saturday morning.

Grassroots Groups File Appeal of Offshore Wind Contracts

New Jersey citizens action groups Defend Brigantine Beach and Downbeach (DBB) and Protect Our Coast New Jersey (POCNJ) filed notices of appeal on Tuesday against the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) in the state Appellate Court. The appeals challenge the legality of two recent NJBPU Orders granting Offshore Wind Renewable Energy Certificate (OREC) contracts to offshore wind project developers Attentive Energy LLC and Leading Light Wind LLC, according to a news release.

Ocean City to Host Market Madness

Boardwalk and downtown merchants in Ocean City will give shoppers a summer preview during the two-day Market Madness event on Saturday and Sunday, March 9 and 10, at the Ocean City Music Pier. The sale will bring together more than 30 different vendors under one roof and provide discounts on favorite local merchandise, goods and attractions. Cape May County Confirms First Positive Rabies Case

The Cape May County Health Department has confirmed the first rabies case of the year from a raccoon on Woodbine Avenue in Belleplain, Dennis Township. Health Officials were notified of a dog that had possibly been exposed to rabies on Feb. 26 and brought to a vet for a rabies booster after having had contact with a rabid raccoon. The raccoon tested positive for rabies by the State Health Department Laboratory on Monday.

Chamber of Commerce Installs Officers and Board Members

The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce installed its new board of directors and officers at the Ocean City Yacht Club on Thursday, according to a news release. Patrick McMahon (McMahon Agency) was installed as president of the Chamber. McMahon was born and raised in Ocean City.

Laura Bishop is New President of CMC Chamber Education Foundation

The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation welcomed Laura Bishop as president of its Board of Trustees. Bishop, managing principal of Laura Bishop Communications (LBC), runs her business from Ocean City and Cherry Hill, and works with a number of education clients in Cape May County.

O.C. School District to Host Unified Sports Season Finale

The Ocean City School District is encouraging students, staff and community members to pack the stands and cheer on the Unified Sports athletes as they play the season finale basketball game on Thursday. Cedar Creek High School Unified team will join forces with the Ocean City Unified team to play against Egg Harbor Township Unified in the Ocean City High School gym at 3 p.m., according to a news release. Family, friends and community members from the schools are invited to cheer on the players.
