Berkshire Hathaway Recognizes O.C., Avalon Realtors

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach Realtors congratulated Patrick Halliday, a sales associate with the Asbury Avenue office in Ocean City, for being recognized as one of the company's quarterly spotlight third quarter 2019 award winners. Halliday was ranked 90 for gross commission income.

Bay Avenue Construction Update

The Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority is replacing and rehabilitating the force mains that carry wastewater to the treatment plant on the bay at 45th Street. The work will be done on 31st Street from Haven Avenue to Bay Avenue and Bay Avenue from 31st Street to Eighth Street. Details follow for construction work scheduled from Dec. 23 to Jan. 3.

OCHS Thanks Delta Airlines for Saving the Day

December is often the best time of the year to spread cheer and gratitude. That’s exactly what Geoff Haines, the athletic director for the Ocean City School District, did recently when he personally delivered Ocean City goodies to representatives of Delta Airlines in Philadelphia to return the company's goodwill. Gifts including school memorabilia, T-shirts, a hand-painted personalized rock from the ‘WE ROCK’ kindness initiative and a message of thanks, were included in the package to thank the airline for the pivotal role it played in getting the high school’s boys and girls cross country teams to Orlando, Fla., for Disney’s invitational race at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in October.

Sturdy Savings Bank Makes Donation to Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro

Sturdy Savings Bank recently presented the nonprofit organization Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro with a donation of more than $7,000 from bank employees Each year, Sturdy’s directors, officers and staff choose a local nonprofit organization for a fundraising campaign. Selected for 2019 was Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro, a nonprofit dedicated to the social and economic development of the residents of the Whitesboro section of Middle Township.

OCHS Boys Basketball Team Wins Opener

The Ocean City High School boys basketball team had a strong start to the 2019-2020 season, defeating the visiting Middle Township Panthers 65-48 on Friday evening. Gannon Brady and Tom Finnegan both led the way for the Red Raiders, scoring 23 points each to top all scorers. Mike Rhodes chipped in 15 points for Ocean City.

Ocean City Primary School Collects Treats For Troops In Honor Of...

This holiday season, the Ocean City Primary School has been collecting donations to send to troops overseas in honor of a kindergarten student whose father will be overseas in Afghanistan during the holidays. Primary School teacher Jennifer DeVlieger and her class are leading the way to spreading cheer. The school has collected donations of treats such as nuts, trail mix, granola bars, beef jerky, Pringles, Pop Tarts, pretzels and other packaged snacks to send overseas to the troops. In addition to the treats, Ocean City Primary School students made cards for troops to include in each package. This project was inspired by a kindergarten student whose father is in the Marine Corps. He will be in Afghanistan and may not be returning to Ocean City until August...

Mayor’s Message: Dec. 20

Mayor Jay Gillian is urging shoppers to patronize Ocean City's stores and restaurants in the final two weeks of the holiday season. In a message posted Friday on the city's website, he is also reminding everyone that admission buttons for the city's family-friendly First Night celebration on New Year's Eve are still available.

O.C. Girls Basketball Team Cruises in Opener

The Ocean City Red Raiders girls basketball program opened up the 2019-2020 season Thursday night with a convincing win over the visiting Millville Thunderbolts, 52-16. Red Raider sophomore Marin Panico led all scorers with 13 points.

“Code Blue” in Effect for Cold Weather

The Cape May County Office of Emergency Management advises that all municipalities in Cape May County will be under a “Code Blue” severe weather advisory from 6 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday. A Code Blue emergency is intended to protect homeless people living outside, on the streets, in parks or poorly insulated settings and who are at risk for cold-related exposure and possible death. People seeking shelter in a warming center should contact their local municipality.
