Cape May County Reports Nine New Coronavirus Cases

The Cape May County Health Department reported Tuesday that there are nine new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number to 530, including 41 deaths. No new deaths were reported Tuesday.

Lifeguards Go On Duty Starting May 23

The Department of Fire and Rescue Services announced Tuesday that the Ocean City Beach Patrol will be guarding the beaches for Memorial Day Weekend. Beaches are guarded from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekends and holidays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. A list of guarded beaches follows.

Sturdy Savings Bank recently presented 25 food banks and pantries in Cape May County and Somers Point with checks to help them meet increased demand during the COVID-19 crisis. In addition to the established food pantries in the area that the bank has always supported annually, many others have been formed during the pandemic to further assist in feeding families in need.

New COVID-19 Death in County

The Cape May County Health Department reported the death of an 87-year-old Lower Township woman Monday from COVID-19. “We are celebrating the life of a good citizen of Cape May County and mourning their passing,” said Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton. “She is remembered in our thoughts and prayers.” The number of new coronavirus cases is five, bringing the total figure for Cape May County to 521, including 41 deaths.

Three New COVID-19 Cases in County

Cape May County reported three new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, raising the total number to 515 countywide. No new deaths were reported.

County Reports One New Coronavirus Death

Cape May County announced Saturday that a 63-year-old man from Woodbine has died from the coronavirus. The county also reported four new cases of COVID-19, raising the total number to 512. In all, there have been 40 deaths in the county, including 31 residents of long-term care facilities, according to a press release.

Cape May County confirmed 20 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, raising the total number in the county to 508. No new deaths were reported. Currently, 228 cases have recovered from COVID-19 in Cape May County.

Cape May County Reports New COVID-19 Death

The Cape May County Health Department reported Thursday that five new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed, bringing the total number countywide to 488. A 91-year-old man from Lower Township became the latest county resident to die from the virus. The total number of deaths in Cape May County now stands at 39, according to a press release.

OCHS Football Seniors Remotely Lauded During Quarantine

When New Jersey schools were forced to close as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ocean City High School football coach Kevin Smith knew the program would face some new challenges. However, schools closing for the remainder of the year and a shelter-in-place order affected all teams in the state. Smith said he felt the worst about lost memories for the senior members of his team. Even though a large portion of the roster is returning in 2020 and the Raiders will be looked on as a team to beat in South Jersey, Smith said this group of seniors has set the stage for the possibilities for even better things to come.
