O.C. Schools to Use Survey Results to Improve COVID-19 Prevention

The Ocean City school district's November 2020 survey, which focused on what the district can control and work to improve in regard to COVID prevention and planning for the benefit of the students and families, has been reviewed by the administration. School officials said of the survey, in which 800 families participated, that there were important takeaways. They were organized into a letter from Schools Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Taylor and released on Friday to district families.

Discounted 2021 Beach Tags Now On Sale

Seasonal beach tags for summer 2021 went on sale Saturday at a discounted price of $20 each. The sale price will remain in effect through May 31, 2021. On June 1, the price increases to $25.

Ocean City Comes Up Short Against DePaul

Ocean City’s football team jumped out to an early lead but lost its first game of the season, dropping a 49-22 decision Friday night to visiting North Jersey powerhouse DePaul Catholic at Carey Stadium. The Red Raiders (6-1) arranged to have DePaul (3-2) as a last-minute opponent after Camden High School decided not to travel to Ocean City for the West Jersey Football League postseason Pod B final because of COVID-19 concerns.

OCHS Girls Soccer Heads to Championship

The Ocean City High School girls soccer team defeated the Mainland Mustangs 3-1 on a sunny Friday afternoon, advancing to the South East B championship round. Senior Faith Slimmer scored all three goals for the red and white, with her sister, Hope Slimmer, assisting on two of them. The Red Raiders will play Absegami Sunday for the title.

Mayor Jay Gillian announced Friday that the Ocean City Ecumenical Council's annual Thanksgiving Service has been canceled this year in response to the rising number of COVID-19 cases. NJSIAA Alters Winter Plan, Pushes Back Sports Start Dates

The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association announced it is pushing back start dates for winter high school sports more than a month due to the surge in COVID cases and will incorporate new safety guidelines. Teams are looking at major changes in protocols, practice dates, as well as no competition until after the new year. Details follow.

Ocean City Field Hockey Team Advances to Championship

The Ocean City High School field hockey team defeated the visiting Mainland Mustangs 3-0 in the semifinal round of the Southeast A playoff. Scoring for the Red Raiders were junior Racheli Levy-Smith with two goals and senior Tara McNally adding one. The Red Raiders will face Egg Harbor Township on Saturday on their home field at Carey Stadium in the championship game.

Get Ready for “Earlier Than the Bird” Shopping Extravaganza

Ocean City’s “Earlier than the Bird” event is your holiday wake-up call inviting one and all to come out and shop downtown for pre-holiday savings at all of your favorite shops. On Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, shoppers can find great deals at stores on Asbury Avenue from Sixth to 11th streets, according to a press release. Shoppers are encouraged to wear their pajamas, and free turkeys will be awarded for the best dressed.

O.C. Football Team Shakes Off Adversity; Set to Play DePaul Catholic

Ocean City's originally scheduled Championship Game set for Friday night at Carey Field against Camden High School has been cancelled. Instead, Ocean City is now set to play perennial North Jersey powerhouse DePaul Catholic, from Wayne, N.J., this Friday night at 6 p.m. at Carey Field. “Plain and simple – they (Camden) chose not to play. They were not willing to meet us at least part of the way and so we had to move on,” said Ocean City Head Coach Kevin Smith.
