New Courts to Give Ocean City Tennis Players Advantage

For years, the tennis courts at Fifth Street in Ocean City have been widely used by the high school for gym class, the school tennis teams, the public and for city-run clinics. But despite the city-owned courts being maintained, over the years they have become weathered from the elements and age. There are five asphalt and five turf courts. There are cracks in some of the asphalt courts and turf is worn at some of the other courts. City Council approved a resolution at its Jan. 25 to hire a contractor to resurface the asphalt and turf courts. In addition, the project will include lighting both the turf and asphalt courts for night play...

FYI Seagulls: Raptors Returning to Ocean City

Seagulls should know the drill by now if they hang out in Ocean City. When spring comes, they had better be on their best behavior. That means no food snatching, no menacing the tourists and no loitering on the Boardwalk, in the downtown or any other busy area in town. The company East Coast Falcons (ECF) and its gull-chasing raptors are coming back in April to intimidate the gulls and keep them from harassing residents and vacationers.

The Ocean City Music Pier is the showpiece of the Boardwalk. It has regally stood the test of time, despite being exposed to countless storms, and has been a venue for generations of visitors to enjoy concerts, shows and other entertainment. But from time to time, the nearly century-old building needs some TLC. In the latest bit of maintenance, the city is planning to make repairs to the Music Pier's substructure at a cost of about $518,000.

Visitors Enjoy Snowy Ocean City Boardwalk

A weekend snowstorm that blanketed the area meant one thing for some visitors to Ocean City. It was time to make snowmen, stroll the boards, grab a slice of pizza and just “chill.” While it wasn’t like the Boardwalk was bustling with visitors Saturday afternoon, there were people out from groups to solos. Even though the temps were in the mid-20s, some brave souls even ventured onto the snowy beaches and walked along the water’s edge, despite the biting cold and whipping winds.
