Ocean City to Honor Breast Cancer Survivors and “Thrivers”

Jeanmarie Mason, of Ocean City, is a fourth stage breast cancer "thriver." She calls herself that because there is no cure for her prognosis. But she fights. She fights in hopes that one day there will be more treatments for those living with fourth stage breast cancer. On Thursday night, Ocean City Council presented Mason with a proclamation in recognition of October as being Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In addition, the proclamation designates Oct. 13 as the official Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) Awareness Day.

Ocean City Mom Creates Parent Group

An Ocean City married mother of two wants parents to be more involved in classroom activities. She would like to see a greater partnership between school officials and the community. And she would like to see new programs where students could bring family members in to honor them and other events that could help boost the morale in the Ocean City school district. So what Ocean City parent Laura Wheeler did was to form a parent group -- OCNJ Families United for Sensible Education (FUSE) for the purpose of opening up a conversation.

The free rain or shine event will be in the lot in the 1600 block of Haven Avenue (the 17th Street entrance to the Ocean City Free Public Library). It will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and promises to bring neighbors together with some of the city’s police officers for a great time, organizers said.

She, along with other board members, met recently and went over a plan to reach out to the community.

Ocean City Uses Artificial Intelligence to Thwart Mass Shootings at Schools

School shootings happen in other towns, other communities, other districts far away, but not in Ocean City. No matter how safe, how prepared a school can be, there is no such thing as too much security. That is why Ocean City school and city officials purchased a new security software system that uses artificial intelligence to add an “extra layer of protection.”

Talk about excitement. The Ocean City Airport Festival had it all Saturday, much to the delight of families. The festival featured a wide array of vintage and new planes, helicopter rides and the ultimate highlight to it all – skydiving team Fastrax performed stunts thousands of feet up.

Wind Farm Critics Continue Protest in Ocean City

Grace Forbes lives in Ocean City half of the year and Georgia the other. She is not only worried about what would happen if a proposed wind farm is built 15 miles off the South Jersey coast, but what it could mean for other projects like it up and down the coast. Forbes attended a protest of preliminary work along the 35th Street corridor in Ocean City for an underground transmission cable that would link wind turbines with a land-based electric grid at the former B.L. England power plant in Upper Township, essentially setting the project in motion...

Hurricane Lee Brings Big Waves to Ocean City

Andrew Christy, of San Diego, Calif., got out of the water at 7th Street Surf Beach in Ocean City Friday and reflected on the rough surf and big waves brought to the area by the effects of Hurricane Lee. “It’s windy. There’s lots of strong currents and it’s fairly good to surf – but it takes a lot of work,” Christy, 33, whose family lives in Ocean City, said. “This is what you hope for from a hurricane. By tomorrow it will be really good.” While skilled surfers could venture out in the choppy surf, beachgoers could not. Spectators lined the Boardwalk and watched as waves and big swells gave surfers a major workout. Others watched from the beach. Some shot video or took photos...
