Ocean City’s Morvay-Miley American Legion Post 524 has been arranging free weeklong vacations for military personnel and their families in “America’s Greatest Family Resort” since 2013.

The Rest & Relaxation Program pays tribute to service men and women for sacrifices made during their time in the military. Whenever military personnel are deployed, their families also share in that deployment by being separated from their loved ones.

This year Post 524 hosted the families of Army Reserve Capt. Joanne Schultze and Marine Lance Corporal Bobby Raditz.

The week’s activities always begin with a fire and police escort into town, alongside The Legion Riders motorcycle brigade.

The service organization’s Rest & Relaxation Program would not exist without the generosity of local merchants, who donate products and services, and Ocean City citizens who offer their island properties at no cost.

“We are deeply indebted to all the local business owners and the citizens of Ocean City who consistently support our vacation program for military personnel and their families,” said Jerry Bonner, Director of the R&R Program.

“Time and again, these folks have come through with fabulous gifts and the use of their condos for the week,” Bonner continued. “The smiles, and sometimes tears, that appear on the faces of our military hero family members, demonstrate how grateful they are.”
