NEWS RELEASE:

Ocean City High School has turned out many impressive graduates, including Doug Colman, who made it all the way to the Super Bowl. In honor of that achievement, the school has been named to the National Football League (NFL) Super Bowl High School Honor Roll and presented with a commemorative Golden Football. To celebrate, Ocean City High School will hold a recognition ceremony with a special presentation of the Golden Football on February 20.

Created in conjunction with the NFL’s 50th Super Bowl season, the Super Bowl High School Honor Roll celebrates the high schools and communities that have contributed to Super Bowl history. More than 2,000 schools and nearly 3,000 individuals will be honored through this program.

Doug Colman, a 1991 Ocean City High School graduate, played in Super Bowl XXXIV with the Tennessee Titans. In high school, Doug Colman was a two-way football star for the Red Raiders. He gained 1272 yards rushing in his career and was named South Jersey Defensive Player of the Year.

From Ocean City High School, Colman went to the University of Nebraska where he was part of the two National Championship Teams. After college, Colman played in the NFL for the Giants, Titans, and the Browns, including the AFC championship. Currently, Colman is an assistant coach with the Houston Texans in the NFL.

“Football has always been about more than wins and losses. The game teaches lessons that last a lifetime,” wrote NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, in his letter to Ocean City High School notifying the school of this honor. “High school football programs from coast to coast have consistently developed citizens of high caliber by instilling the values of football in their student athletes. The NFL is grateful to you and your community and honored to team with you in developing champions on and off the field.”

The Golden Football will be presented at a special recognition ceremony held between games at the Ocean City High School Boys/Girls Double Header Basketball Game on Saturday, February 20, 2016. For more information, visit http://oceancity.nj.och.schoolinsites.com/.
