Ocean City’s 31st annual DOO DAH PARADE is Saturday, April 16, starting at noon at Sixth Street and Asbury Avenue. The colorful march goes from 6th to 12th St. on Asbury turns to the Boardwalk and ends at the Music Pier. There the annual PieAsco is held.
The Parade features the music of the Pitman Hobo Band, Atlantic City Bagpipe Band, two Dixieland Bands and other musical units. There will be group and individual entries including the Ghost Busters, a ladies skating contingent, clowns, a group of German Shepherds, radio stations and much more.

At the PieAsco, folks smoosh each other with shaving cream pies to honor the memory and humor of the late Soupy Sales, a popular supporter of Doo Dah. No registration is necessary for this free event. Just be there and bring a towel. All participants receive a certificate to show their friends, declaring they were pied.
Following an awards ceremony and the PieAsco, the 600 bassets will converge on the football practice field, off the Boardwalk at 6th St. Visitors are welcome to get up close and personal with the bassets and their best friends.
The Doo Dah Weekend begins on Fri., April 15 with the humorous and endearing Basset Hound Olympics set for the Tabernacle Grounds, 1 p.m. at 6th and Asbury Ave. Bassets, ears flapping, engage in spirited sprints, hop over hurdles then race to the finish line. Most then flop down for a nap.
From 2 to 3 p.m. on Fri., April 15 Dr. Joel Goodman presents a show on the “Positive Power of Humor in Taxing Times” at the Ocean City Free Public Library, 17th and Simpson Ave. Joel is the founder and director of the HUMOR Project in Saratoga Springs, New York. He is one of two speakers in the world to have presented in all 50 states and all seven continents. Joel is the author of eight books and recipient of the International Lifetime of Laughter Achievement Award. His work has been featured in over 7,000 media in 175 countries.
(April 15) The TICKET SALE for the annual AUTHOR’S HIGH TEA sponsored by the Friends and Volunteers of the Ocean City Free Public Library. The annual High Tea is May 5th at 2 p.m. in the Flanders Hotel. Guest author will be Patricia Chappine, who wrote “New Jersey Women in World War II.”
Tickets may be purchased on Friday, April 15 from 6-8 p.m. and Sat., April 16 from 9-11 a.m. in the Atrium of the Library. Cost is $30. Open seating. Cash or check only. Make checks payable to FVOCFPL.

(April 17) MUSIC OF THE WATER: A free concert by musicians of the Ocean City Pops is scheduled for the Ocean City Free Public Library, 17th and Simpson Ave., with special guest Scott Breiner at 3 p.m. Enjoy the musical ebb and flow as the musicians perform works inspired by the sea, rivers and lakes. (April 20) BEACH NOURISHMENT AND DUNE VEGETATION will be discussed in the next environmental lecture program, 6:30 p.m. at the Ocean City Free Public Library, 17th and Simpson Ave. Crist Robine from the Coastal Research Center of Stockton University will be guest speaker. Sponsored by the Ocean City Environmental Commission and the Library. The event is free and will be held in the Chris Maloney Lecture Hall, Room 110 of the Library. (April 30) OCEAN CITY GREAT STRIDES WALK: 10 a.m. registration at 6th St. Practice Field, 11 a.m. walk. A family-oriented event with a healthy 5K Walk, children’s activities, food and festivities that participants look forward to every year. (May 7) DAY WITHOUT SHOES 5K RUN/1 MILE WALK: Registration will be at 23rd St. and Boardwalk from 7-8:45 a.m. with race starting at 9 a.m. Ocean City High School Key Club is hosting the event in conjunction with TOMS: One For Shoes. This is a barefoot run/walk on the beach. Key Club is bringing awareness to children’s health and education by going without shoes. TOMS will donate a pair of shoes to a child in need for each race participant. Registration fee includes a T shirt and post race refreshments.
