This morning at the Community Center, the Ocean City Civic Association elected a new slate of officers. This occurred at its annual meeting and the slate was voted in unanimously. Jim Root, outgoing president, began the meeting with the traditional Pledge of Allegiance, he will continue to act as part of the board of directors for the organization in the role of past president.

President for the next year is Brenda Braun, a six-year resident of Ocean City who has been involved in volunteer activities for professional organizations for many years. She has two adult and one middle school child. Her husband, Dale, is a volunteer to the planning board.

Leigh Batastini was elected as the first vice president and is a long time Ocean City resident. She also has a child in Ocean City school district. Her passion is health and wellness and she will facilitate relationships with other community groups. Her husband, John sits as a volunteer to the Ocean City school board.

Tami Kitchen agreed to become the membership and corresponding secretary. She also has children in the school and has vast experience on planning activities that bring people together and hopes to do this as an OCCA member.

Recording secretary is Barbara Zarrella. Barb does not have children in the city, but has grandchildren. She is a recent full time resident, but has owned in Ocean City for years. Barbara has a son who is looking to move into the city!

Annette Lopresti has accepted a role as treasurer. In this role she has tremendous experience as her “fulltime job” is a bookkeeper. Annette is also a long time resident and is excited to be involved in her township civic association.

OCCA is still looking for members that want to make a difference. Specifically, they are seeking a membership chair (to assist Tami), a seasonal committee chair (for the seasonal residents), an environmental chair (to organize groups for beach clean-up), as well as many helpers for each committee. The organization is hoping to get other community groups to meet with them in September so the OC community can grow and work together to create a positive change! Dues are currently $15 per household per year. Please go to the website to join and please email Brenda if you wish to be more involved!
